An App More Addictive than Angry Birds, Pigs Might Fly
(PRWEB UK) 2 November 2011
Salford-based app development company, Appstart, launched its newest game Pigs Might Fly last week with a campaign that saw pigs take to the sky across Manchester.
Appstart launched the game last week by attaching large helium balloons to the games hero, Graham the pig, and floating them around the city to make everyone aware of their new game which has been dubbed as more addictive than Angry Birds.
Commuters and shoppers alike were greeted with the cardboard pig cut-outs at landmarks including the Manchester Eye and the town hall at the launch of the game on Wednesday morning (26th October).
The campaign was successful and in the first two hours that Pigs Might Fly was released it charted in the top 15 Children’s Games in the UK in the iOS App Store and was ranked amongst the top 300 Apps in the UK overall.
Sales of the game hit the 1,000 mark within the first two days making it the company’s most successful app to date.
One review of the five-star-rated game on the App Store by Grant Gilmour read: “This game is amazing, in fact it’s replaced my love of Angry Birds and I was addicted to that best seller. This game is so fun and addictive and I would recommend to anyone!”
The game follows the story of Graham the pig who has to escape the farmer’s mincing machine. With modes of transport including balloons, rockets and helpful vultures Graham must collect enough coins on his travels to pay for plane tickets to international destinations which include London, Paris and Las Vegas.
General Manager of Appstart, Alex McDaid said:
“We are really pleased with the reaction and feedback we got to the Pigs Might Fly stunt and we can see from the sales so far that big push to raise awareness was successful.
“Here at Appstart we like developing apps that we would want to buy and use ourselves and Pigs Might Fly is a great example of that. It’s also a hit for the children, for the same price as a chocolate bar the kids can be entertained for hours.”
Appstart was established in March 2011 by two young entrepreneurs Alex McDaid and Liam Daly. In the eight months since it was formed the company has grown from just two employees to employing a staff of 20 developers.
So far Appstart have developed 18 Apps available in the Apple App Store including ‘Test Your Lung Strength’ and the ‘KFC Finder’.
Pigs Might Fly is available from the Apple App Store for just £1.49.
