<p> Award winning garden designer and broadcaster Joe Swift will be designing the Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden, for this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The garden, which is the first Joe has designed for Chelsea Flower Show, draws cultural inspiration from Joe’s local area of Hackney in London. He has designed the garden to capture the power of plants and natural forms within urban and suburban environments.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Joe Swift said: “I am thrilled to be designing my first garden for Homebase at Chelsea. Inspiration has been drawn from the contrast and juxtaposition of the different areas I pass in and around the city, leading me to develop the garden with an urban oasis feel.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The garden aims to connect the garden and visitors through a series of ‘views’ with four large cedar wooden frames creating snapshots. These views vary as you move around the garden and to draw the eye through the long vistas of the garden, as well as playing a key role in dividing up the space into distinct ‘rooms’. The combination of natural materials, water and plants invite the visitor to get close to and connect directly with the garden in an energising and original way.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Stone and wood will provide texture and contrast, appearing in stylised forms. Oversized horizontally sliced boulders and wooden sculptures decorate and punctuate the space, as well as provide garden seating to relax and enjoy the garden from. The stone has all been sourced from a single quarry in Yorkshire, with many of the plants also coming from the UK.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The sustainable garden will consist of trees such as stemmed Cornus Mas and Prunus ‘Amber beauty’ alongside a London Plane tree which have all be selected for their sculptural forms and the interesting colour and texture of their bark. Evergreen shrubby plants add solidity and a hint of the Mediterranean to the dry planting palette, while textural foliage and perennials inject shots of colour throughout.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The warm colour tones of gold, orange, acid yellow and splashes of burgundy will bring the dark and mid greens of the gardens base foliage to life. Combined with the yellow stone, the garden will infuse a feeling of freshness and originality.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In honour of the garden, Homebase is introducing a range of plants that have been influenced by the planting scheme for the Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Chelsea Collection will be available from March 2012 and aims to inspire gardeners of all levels to re-create a bit of Chelsea magic, inspired by Joe’s design and themes. All of the plants within the Chelsea Collection are covered by Homebase’s five-year plant guarantee on hardy plants.</p>

Teenage Cancer Trust fund and build specialist units within NHS hospitals where young people are treated together by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them.</p>

<p> Craig Johnson, Director of Ministries at Lakewood Church in Houston, the largest church in the United States, stopped by the Solomon Success podcast to discuss his new book, “Lead Vertically.”  Johnson discussed passion, people and God-dependence as key principles he learned and developed with Lakewood Church Pastor Joel Osteen.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Lakewood Church started in a little feed store,” said Johnson, describing the church as it began in the 1960s, long before he came on staff.  “They didn’t have huge success but built a core. They had massive growth in the 70s and 80s, in one of the roughest neighborhoods in Houston.  When Joel took over, he wasn’t really expecting to be the Pastor—he just worked behind the scenes. You never know, when God puts you out front, He never worries about your faults. He just wants you to be willing to take the challenge.”  The church now meets in the former Compaq Center where the Houston Rockets played.  Lakewood’s weekly attendance averages 40,000.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Johnson came on board when the church began its move into the huge Compaq Center.  It was then that he faced leadership challenges that pulled the floor out from under a lifetime of ministry. “When God moves, and He does something beyond we could ask, think or imagine—I was dealing with dynamics I’d never dealt with before,” said Johnson. “We depended on God to show us how to respond to all these new situations. When you ask us how we did it—we didn’t do it. God did it.  Leading vertically is looking up and saying, ‘God, how would you develop this person?’  You’re taking people on a whole different plane, a whole different level.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>He talked about one of the book’s key leadership principles: The Heart of a Child, The Will of A Warrior. “Joel [Osteen] is very childlike in who he is and how he leads.  He’s probably the most loyal person I’ve ever met.  He knows that God can lead in any time, in any situation.  A Heart of a Child is willing to see God’s plan and accept it. The Will of the Warrior, however, is determined to see that thing through.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Johnson emphasized Lakewood Church’s focus on people, calling it a central tenet of the church’s leadership. “The goal’s never more important than the person because the person helps you reach the goal. So many times as leaders, we skip over our people to try and meet our sales quota. What we can really forget is that if we really invest in our people, they’ll not only help you reach that goal, they’ll give you longevity and enable you to reach more.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Finally, he mentioned the vital importance of leaders maintaining their reputation and developing influence. “Reputations are important because of influence. Joel Osteen says he’d rather have influence than money. With influence, you can generate money, but also develop relationships and enable other things to happen. We teach people that the most important thing they have is their influence.”</p>

<p> When the National Collegiate Athletic Association® basketball championships are played in the Mercedes Benz Superdome on March 31 and April 2, millions across the world will be watching the athletes play on courts that started taking shape last September in a tiny town on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  </p>

<p>The sleek hardwood courts on which the championships will be played kickoff their traditional journey to the Final Four® on Saturday, March 17 with a fan rally at the 100 block of Witherspoon in Louisville.</p>

<p>The court’s journey to New Orleans is called The Connor Sport Court Final Four Floor Tour transported by UPS, thanks to a partnership between Connor Sport Court and UPS. This is the first year in the five year history of the court tour that Connor Sport Court has partnered with another company.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>A documentary team from CBS Television is filming the tour, from construction of the court in Amasa to Final Four play in New Orleans.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The championship court, which will be transported by UPS Freight, will begin its road trip on March 16 at UPS’s hub in Columbus, Ohio. From there it will travel on to Louisville, one of the host sites for the second and third rounds of the men’s tournament.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>On March 19, the court will make a stop at the UPS Freight facility in Atlanta followed by Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., on March 20; the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on March 21, and LSU in Baton Rouge on March 22 before arriving at its final destination in New Orleans on March 23. The events at the UPS facilities in Columbus and Atlanta will be exclusively for UPS employees, but all other court destinations will be open to the public.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>UPS and Connor Sport Court have planned a wide range of entertaining events and activities at each stop, including photo opportunities with a replica of center court, a Final Four trivia game with collectible prizes and a shooting contest on a “backyard” basketball court provided by Sport Court®. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“It’s a pleasure to partner with the eminent UPS brand on our tour,” said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court. “We are the foremost experts in building sports surfaces, and they are the foremost experts in transportation and delivery of items large and small. <p>The Connor Sport Court Final Four Floor Tour transported by UPS actually started last autumn in the town of Amasa, population 250, which is home to a complex of four buildings housing one of the manufacturing operations of Connor Sport Court International. Connor, founded in 1872, is the leading manufacturer of hardwood courts in the U.S.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Summer brings a tourist economy to the U.P., but the Connor plant is the largest full time employer in Iron County.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“We draw 70 percent of our 125 employees from the towns of Iron River and Crystal Falls,” says Conrad Stromberg, manager of the plant and a Connor employee for the past 23 years.  Stromberg lives in Amasa, “But we have to go to Crystal Falls or Iron River to do our shopping.” </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In addition to the NCAA® Final Four® courts, Connor’s Amasa plant also manufactures about 750 playing courts every year for schools, gymnasiums, colleges and NBA teams.  &#13;<br />
<br />“We are very proud of the portable courts we build for the NCAA and the NBA teams,” said Stromberg, citing as an example the unique parquet hardwood portable floor the company built for the Boston Celtics. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Portable floors—such as those used in the Final Four—enable venues to quickly take them up and down. This means you can have basketball one night, hockey the next,” says Stromberg.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The NCAA Final Four courts for both men and women are manufactured from hard maple which Connor Sport Court purchased as rough lumber. Connor buys from about 60 different sawmills, most of them in Michigan and Wisconsin. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Last September the rough lumber arrived at the Connor plant. “First it is cut to a width size of 2 and ¼ inches,” said David G. Smith, production manager at Amasa. It is then planed and defects are cut out of the wood. After that, it runs through a side-matcher, which planes it down and cuts the tongue and groove on each side of the strip.  It then goes to the end-matcher which makes a tongue and groove on the end of each strip.  It is graded first, second and third according to Maple Floor Manufacturing Association (MFMA) “The NCAA gets only first grade maple,” says Smith.   </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The courts then go into a separate building where it is “portabilized,” assembled into sections measuring 48 ¼ inches by 96 and 1/8 inches.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The total size of each court, once assembled, 60’ x 120’, an area of 7,200 square feet. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>One of the most critical elements is the subflooring, a patented Connor structure which goes under the maple surface and provides just the right amount of resiliency and shock absorption to assure good performance and player safety.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Once each portable section is complete, it is placed in a stack of 12 under stringently controlled temperature and humidity conditions.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>A few weeks before the Final Four tournaments, the floor is assembled and inspected at the Amasa plant. The floor is then disassembled and sent to one of the company’s finishing facilities, in this case Ohio Floor Co., Apple Creek, Ohio, for the men’s’ Final Four Court.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Connor Sport Court is also supplying the court for the 2012 Women’s Final Four which will take place April 1 and 2 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Stromberg proudly points out the company’s environmental efforts. An independent environmental engineering firm audited and designated them a “Zero Waste Company.”  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“The whole plant celebrated that designation,” says Stromberg. The plant utilizes sawdust to fire boilers and to heat and generate steam. Any remaining waste is made into “wood flour” which is used for composite decking. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>As a member of the Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association, Connor adheres to the strict grading and quality standards of that organization, Stromberg adds. Maple hardwood used in the courts is from a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than is harvested each year.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>

<p>The basic configuration of the Be-200 amphibious aircraft is indended for fighting the forest fires using the fire extinguishant fluids. While doing this, the aircraft can fulfill the following tasks: stop and restrain the spread of the big forest fires by developing the protecting strip due to multiple drops on the fire edge; extinguishing the small fire and fire which only starts to develop; delivery of fire brigades and fire extingushing equipment to the fire region by landing on preselected water area of aifield, and return to the base. A particular feature of the Be-200 aircraft, when compared with the other amphibians, is that it has fully pressurized fuselage, which allows to fulfill a lot of missions. The aircraft is fitted with flight/navigation and communication equipment allowing the navigation and flight control at all flight phases in adverse weather conditions at any season, day and night. Be-200 will be equipped with the new avionics complex ARIA-200 which meets the requirements of ICAO category III of joint Russian-American production by ARIA JV (Allied Signal Aerospace, USA and NIIAO, Russia). The interior for the Be-200 amphibious aircraft firefighting configuration is developed by AIM Aviation Fliteform. Passenger and combi configurations are on the list as well. While designing the Be-200 amphibious aircraft, the designers took into account the design experience and test results of the biggest jet amphibian A-40 &#8220;Albatross&#8221; which set 148 records.
